who’S walker?

Jessica Walker’s formal training started in African Contemporary Dance at The Place, London, with Akosua Boakye, and she then went on to achieve her MA in Contemporary Dance Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Since then, Walker has further developed her practices in movement research whilst engaging in stunt work for film and TV, working on Star Wars, Wicked, HBO’s House of the Dragon, and various Apple TV, Disney, and Marvel productions.

Her choreographic works have performed nationally in both TV and live performance settings: Exit Eve (2016, Channel 4), Tick The Box (Mixed/Other) (2017, Leicester), The Grey Area I & II (2017 & 2018, The Place), Neon Exodus: A Dance About Anime (2020, The Place), TREAD (2022, Leicester), TREAD (2023, London, Glasgow).

Walker’s works are characterised by her use of African Contemporary dance forms and stunt performance techniques whilst also applying minimalist tools for movement exploration and meaning-making. Her orderly use of repetition, canonical variation, and phasing allows her to experiment with emergence and dissolution, abstraction into refinement, making her works visceral “thinking spaces” as well as an athletic display.

Walker has also been appointed Dance Ambassador for One Dance UK, written for dance publications, and was also appointed as Lecturer for Choreography at Buckinghamshire New University (2017-2019).
